Azusa, CA - Normally, when you see a bear in your backyard, it's best to stay clear. But when Barry Cooper caught a bear stealing a hotdog off his grill, he headed straight into the danger.
Cooper later told reporters from his hospital room, "When I saw the video of that teenager saving her dog, I knew I had to do the same thing to save mine. And I did...well, most of it."
Cooper, who is expected to make a full recovery, said a 1/4 of the hotdog was destroyed in the fight, but he was able to dust off the rest and put it in the fridge before the ambulance arrived.
Azusa residents are calling Barry a hero, but wildlife officials are reminding the public to avoid fighting bears.
Cooper hopes to be released from the hospital by Saturday and plans to throw the dog back on the grill as soon as he gets home.
