Kentucky Derby jockey hopes to win big after year sitting at home

Louisville, KY - After a year sitting at home, beloved jockey Eddie Lombardi returns as the heavy favorite in the 2021 Kentucky Derby.

"I'm hoping to win and win big," said Lombardi on Friday night. "I took 2020 off, but I'm easing back in the saddle."

Lombardi will be riding Essential Twerker, a 3-year-old thoroughbred with a Mount Carmel pedigree.

While odds-makers have Lombardi at a 10,000-1, the jockey has gained unprecedented support from fans.

The Kentucky Derby begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 1.
