Local Proud Boy deeply moved by Trump shout-out at debate

Lebanon, TN - Local Proud Boy member Jimmy Roberts was moved to tears on Tuesday night after President Trump gave the far-right group a shout-out during the first 2020 Presidential Debate.

"Just when you think no one notices you and all your hard work, BAM! The president of the United States gives you a shout-out on national television," said Roberts.

The moment came in the debate when Chris Wallace challenged Trump to condemn white supremacists. Trump agreed, but then said, "Proud Boys -- stand back and stand by."

Roberts says he and some of the brothers were making torches and watching the debate when they heard Trump mention the group.

"We all just looked at each other. It was so surreal. And I'm not proud to say it, but I just broke down weeping. We hear you Mr. President, and we will standby. We will standby."

Roberts says he and his fellow Proud Boys are planning a rally in the next couple weeks unless the president gives them different directions.
