Nashville Superspeedway celebrates return of NASCAR with Free Jar of Pickles Day

Nashville, TN - The wait is over! NASCAR is returning to Nashville this weekend for the first time since 1984, and the Nashville Superspeedway is celebrating the historic event with a NASCAR race tradition: Free Jar of Pickles Day.

The first 38,000 observers will receive a souvenir 64 FL OZ jar of the tasty treat to enjoy in the 90-degree weather. In addition, one lucky fan will win a free daily pickle for life.

"We think Nashville, NASCAR, and pickles are the perfect combination," said event spokesperson Steve Vlasic. "They're all a big dill."

The last Free Jar of Pickles Day in Nashville occurred on May 12, 1984, during the NASCAR Coors 420 race. Event planners say they chose the free pickle offer to commemorate the return after a 37-year hiatus.

"I'm not sure what I'm more excited about: the race or the pickles," said one long-time fan who attended the 1984 pickle day.

Vlasic said he hopes today's race is just the beginning of a pickle boom in Music City and hopes the Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators will host their own pickle giveaways.

"I won't stop until pickles are the official snack of Nashville. So, stop gherkin around and eat some pickles," said the spokesman.
