Hollywood, CA - According to reports, veteran musical actor Dick Van Dyke has been cast to play a college-aged Evan Hansen in the musical movie sequel.
Dear Evan Hansen 2: The College Years follows Hansen to an out-of-state university where a misunderstanding leads to a journey of self-discovery that will change everyone.
When asked why the original actor Ben Platt was not returning to the role, producers said, "Well, we feel Ben looks a little too young to play a college-aged Hansen. It's too unbelievable. Dick Van Dyke was the obvious choice."
The film is set to begin production in Vancouver in October with an August 2022 release date.
Dick Van Dyke nor Ben Platt responded to our requests for comment.
