GOT Starbucks cup nominates itself for Emmy Award after HBO fails to show the love

Updated: Jul 21, 2019

The Starbucks cup featured in Game of Thrones (Season 8, Episode 4) became the fourth cast member to nominate themselves for an Emmy Award this week after HBO failed to submit them for consideration.

The unexpected guest performance by the cup in "The Last of the Starks" episode nearly broke the internet in May, leading to millions of dollars in free publicity for the popular show. Not only was this contribution not rewarded with a nomination, but the cup's critically-acclaimed performance was digitally removed from the show within days of the episode's release.

The Starbucks cup was not the only cast member overlooked during the nomination process. Earlier this week, the Hollywood Reporter announced that Gwendoline Christie ( Brienne of Tarth), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre) each paid their own $225 entry fee to submit themselves for Emmy consideration.

There has been no word from The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences if it will consider the cup but it would most likely be included in the Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Drama Series category if accepted.
